Leading UK bookseller Waterstone's has deployed a search application on its till points to improve customer service.
The BookSearch application, developed by Head Ofware International, allows staff to quickly answer customer enquiries by searching on the Nielsen BookData bibliographic database.
Nielsen BookData is a book reference source that has been serving publishers, booksellers and libraries for more than 140 years.
The database, stored locally on a CD-Rom, provides information on more than 3.2 million English language titles. The application will be included in all new tills, with full deployment across the retailer's 200 stores slated for this summer.
Waterstone's project manager Ed Rhodes said: 'BookSearch is a key requirement for us, offering enhanced customer service features through our PoS equipment.
We are impressed with the way the development team readily took our requirements on board, producing a solution that is clearly identifiable as a Waterstone's system.'
It is part of a wider upgrade of the retailer's systems, which included a new stock management and ordering system.
