Tesco has processed more than 80,000 Chip and PIN transactions through its two stores in the Northampton area after only three months.
According to technology supplier Dione, these volumes show that Tesco is confident that it has perfected its EMV solution and is ready to start full roll-out.
Tesco has opted for the swipe and park approach, which enables customers to choose whether they want to input a PIN number or write a signature.
The retailer hopes to have its Chip and PIN solution installed in its 20,000 tills by October, to go live in April to June next year. This is in line with the release of PIN enabled cards by credit card companies and banks.
