Retail Solutions - Peacocks picks P&O Nedlloyd's Web-based supply chain tracker

The Peacock Group has bought P&O Nedlloyd's LogNet system to improve visibility within its supply chain.

The Web-based supply chain management (SCM) solution allows the retailer to track the progress of goods from purchase order to UK delivery.

The group, which operates more than 700 shops under the Peacocks and Bonmarche fascias, has been a customer of P&O Nedlloyd container shipping for more than 10 years.

Peacocks ships direct about£18 million worth of goods annually, mainly from the Far East.

The system has been on trial since January 1, but has already produced a return, according to Peacock Group shipping manager David Kernick.

He said: 'We now know within a few days when the goods are on the water, and we get an ETA weeks before a shipment arrives, so we can book warehouse space in a more timely manner.

'The system also produces vendor reports showing when our suppliers deliver, so our buyers can negotiate a cost price discount if suppliers aren't performing well.'

The system also reduces the number of half-full containers the group sends, reducing shipping rates.

Kernick estimated that the service could save more than£70,000 a year.
