Argos has awarded a contract to Retek to provide a streamlined inventory solution.
The product, Advanced Inventory Planning, is designed to forecast Argos customer demand over an extended period of time, using each store's stockroom as a resource for every other store.
Retek northern Europe vice president Tom Fischer said: 'The way retailers traditionally do replenishment is they look at it maybe a couple of times a week. We take a longer-term view and plan the intake the retailer needs so they can learn to anticipate demand.' The system can identify the optimal performance of the supply chain, taking into account its limitations.
'It allows you to look forward and measure the constraints in the supply chain and work out an optimal plan that minimises costs and inventory,' said Fischer. 'One benefit that suits retailers like Argos is that it allows them to take a holistic view of their inventory,' he added.
