Retail Property - Uniqlo to sell off its failing stores

Agents have been appointed to dispose of underperforming Uniqlo stores that are failing to meet sales and profits targets.

FPD Savills has been chosen to offload 10 Uniqlo stores in the Midlands and Northwest. Michael Peddar & Co is handling the disposal of eight stores the Japanese fashion retailer has in the Southeast.

Uniqlo is keeping five profitable stores in Richmond, Wimbledon and Uxbridge, as well as its central London flagships in Knightsbridge and Regent Street.

Two 930 sq m out-of-town stores, plus four smaller units are to go at Staines, Romford, Chester, Walsall, Eccles and Liverpool. The 12-strong portfolio of in-town stores includes units in Brighton and Watford in the Southeast, Merry Hill and Solihull in the Midlands and Leicester and Manchester in the North.

FPD Savills associate director Ross Campbell said other fashion retailers, such as Next, H&M and Zara, are likely to show interest in the stores.

'They are all prominent stores in good locations,' he said.
