Retail Property - Superstore trial for The Entertainer

The Entertainer, the largest toy chain in the UK, has chosen CIT's Yate shopping centre near Bristol to trial its first neighbourhood superstore.

The store extends to 9,000 sq ft (835 sq m) and forms part of a new development located on West Walk, next to a newly-opened McDonald's outlet.

The 35-branch toy chain already has two city-centre superstores, in Kingston upon Thames and the Bullring in Birmingham.

CIT acquired the Yate centre in January as part of the£318 million Bourdon Portfolio, formerly the Charterhouse Shopping Centre Funds I and II. The shopping centre portfolio contains more than 1.9 million sq ft (176,510 sq m) of lettable space, and includes more than 700 tenants.

Yate was bought with the benefit of an existing planning permission to divide up an old Somerfield store into 12,500 sq ft (1,160 sq m) of new space, as part of a£20 million upgrade programme.

McDonald's took a 3,500 sq ft (325 sq m) unit for a drive-through restaurant, and the remaining space has now been taken by The Entertainer.

DTZ and Mansfield Elstob Main acted for CIT. Reid Rose Gregory is the retained agent for The Entertainer.
