Retail Property - Scotland next target as Fat Face expands

Surfwear retailer Fat Face is targeting Scotland for the next phase of its nationwide roll-out.

New sites have already been secured in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Inverness, with plans to open in St Andrews early next year.

In Aberdeen, a two-storey unit at 15 Back Wynd has been acquired through an assignment of Red Wings Shoes' lease, expiring in 2010. The passing rental is£28,000 a year.

In Edinburgh, Fat Face has taken a second store in the city, in Unit RU41 at the Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre in Leith. The first-floor unit extends to 1,430 sq ft (135 sq m).

The retailer has also taken Unit 4 in Phase 1 of the Eastgate Shopping Centre, Inverness. The unit has been acquired on a 15-year lease at an initial rent of£65,000 a year.

Stuart Moncur, associate at Fat Face's agent Cushman & Wakefield Healey & Baker, said: 'Fat Face has significant growth plans for Scotland and the acquisition of these three stores will bring its Scottish portfolio up to six stores.

'All of the stores are located in prime positions in towns, which we view as having the ideal catchment population, specifically high levels of students and young professionals.'
