Retail Property - Paul Smith to double space at Royal Exchange

Fashion retailer Paul Smith is to double its floorspace at the Royal Exchange development in the heart of the City of London, taking an adjoining unit so that it can take its Blue and Pink womenswear brands to the City for the first time.

The move is part of a strategy by landlord ING Real Estate to make the centre more attractive to the City's high-spending female shoppers. Recent arrivals include Lulu Guinness, Tiggy Twilight and Tanner Krolle.

The destination has seen increased footfall since the opening of Conran's Grand Cafe and Bar in the centre of the Courtyard, which was voted one of the three top bars in the capital by London's Evening Standard.

According to Keith Wilson, partner at letting agent Wilson McHardy, the landlord has an active policy of taking back units in order to manage the tenant mix. In addition, four more units are under offer at present.
