Retail Property - Lend Lease starts work on Norwich Chapelfield site

Lend Lease has started work on site on Chapelfield, its£275 million regeneration of the former Nestle factory in Norwich city centre. Demolition work has begun, making way for what will become the biggest-ever single development in Norwich.

The 47,380 sq m mixed-use project will be anchored by a House of Fraser department store and include a further 10 large stores and more than 80 shops, restaurants and cafes as well as 115 residential units. Capital Shopping Centres has already agreed to buy the scheme on completion in 2005 for a projected£275 million.

Lend Lease project director John Peacock said: 'Chapelfield will help Norwich to successfully compete with the likes of Cambridge and Peterborough as a retail destination.'
