Retail Property - Debenhams anchors Ayr Central

Debenhams has signed up to anchor Ayr Central, Henry Boot Developments' 200,000 sq ft (18,580 sq m) high street development at Ayr, Scotland.

Debenhams has agreed a deal for the 80,500 sq ft (7,480 sq m) anchor unit. Two further units of 20,000 sq ft (1,860 sq m) each are under offer to major fashion chains, even though formal marketing has not yet begun.

Ayr Central will have 22 retail units, ranging from 900 sq ft (85 sq m) upwards. A central street will run the entire length of the development to create a natural flow between existing prime retail and the railway station.

Within the street, a town square will house coffee kiosks, under-cover seating and restaurants, while the 500-space underground car park will have direct access onto the A79 and motorway network.

Work is due to start on site in the spring, with the development scheduled for completion by Christmas 2005. Culverwell and Springford & Co are the joint letting agents.

Henry Boot Developments regional development manager Alan Kinloch said: 'Debenhams is a major signing for Ayr Central and cements our view that this development is the new prime retail location in Ayr.'
