Fashion retailer Republic has appointed Guy Critchlow, formerly at Marks & Spencer and Kookai, to the position of chief operating officer.

The move comes just weeks after Andy Bond was appointed as chairman of the retailer.

Critchlow will report to chief executive Tim Whitworth, and oversee all business operations including stores, merchandising, property, logistics and supply chain.

Whitworth said: “We are delighted that Guy has joined the growing team of talent at Republic. His invaluable experience, flair for retail and passion for product will be essential in driving the next chapter of the Republic story for our customer.”

Republic, which sells brands including Diesel and Firetrap, reported sales in excess of £225m in 2010.

Critchlow takes up his position with immediate effect. He was most recently managing director of Kookai UK.
