E-tail giant Amazon.co.uk broke all its sales records this festive season, receiving orders for 950,000 items in the run-up to Christmas.

The rush of orders - 11 a second - came later this year, with the peak day being Monday December 10; a whole week later than last year's busiest day.

“I think a later peak order day illustrates the increased confidence that consumers have,” said Amazon.co.uk managing director Brian McBride.

“Customers are now happy to order much closer to Christmas as they trust the fact that we will deliver on time.”

Amazon's Christmas bestseller list was dominated by DVDs, with The Bourne Ultimatum, The Simpsons Movie and Shrek the Third taking the top three spots.

Leona' Lewis Spirit was the highest place album and Nigella Lawson's Nigella Express was the only book to make Amazon's top ten sellers.
