Property News - St Modwen mall deal is boost for Kirkby facelift

St Modwen Properties has bought out the remaining 50 per cent interest in the Kirkby shopping centre on Merseyside from clients of LaSalle Investment Management.

The move clears the way for a refurbishment of the centre, as part of the wider regeneration of Kirkby town centre.

St Modwen has been involv-ed in the 200,000 sq ft (18,580 sq m) centre since July 2001, and during this time it has redeveloped the former market hall into three retail units. It is now working with Knowsley Borough Council on a draft masterplan for the town centre.

St Modwen regional director Michelle Taylor said: 'This property occupies a strategic position within the town centre and provides the opportunity for a much wider, mixed-use, sustainable development.'
