Property News - St Albans picks Davidson for £20m plan

Henry Davidson Developments has been chosen by St Albans District Council as its preferred developer for a£20 million-plus mixed-use city centre development on Bricket Road, St Albans.

Henry Davidson's 272,955 sq ft (25,360 sq m) Benoy-designed proposal will be anchored by a five-screen 13,000 sq ft (1,210 sq m) multiplex, with an additional 11,840 sq ft (1,100 sq m) of retail space allocated specifically for restaurants.

On the upper floors there will be 86,355 sq ft (8,020 sq m) of luxury residential accommodation and 466 parking spaces. Construction is expected to start in autumn 2005.

Retail rents are likely to be set at between£18 and£20 per sq ft (£193 and£215 per sq m).

A strong interest has already been noted from potential tenants including Nando's, Chicago Rock Cafe and Ha! Ha!

Henry Davidson Developments managing director Scott Davidson said: 'St Albans has been in need of such a scheme for a long while. We are in no doubt it will raise the game for St Albans, bolstering its retail and leisure offering considerably and serving as a catalyst for further regeneration.'
