Property News - Realm targets Devon's Atlantic Village as ideal site for a supermarket

Outlet operator Realm has lodged a planning application for a new foodstore to be built adjacent to the Atlantic Village outlet shopping centre at Bideford in north Devon.

The application comes after the Local Plan Inspector's recent decision that two other sites were not suitable for such development, which means Torridge District Council now has to consider alternative sites. The Atlantic Village site was the council's original preferred location for a foodstore and was allocated as such in the 1994 Local Plan.

Realm director Dan Mason said: 'Given the lack of alternative sites within Bideford we think there are good planning, highways, environmental and economic advantages of this proposal. We know that some of the leading supermarket groups have been seeking representation in Bideford.'
