Property News - MetroCentre's Red Mall names its tenant line-up

Capital Shopping Centres has unveiled the retailers going into its Red Mall extension at Gateshead's MetroCentre, which is expected to open on October 6.

H&M is taking 22,150 sq ft (2,060 sq m) - Zara, 19,000 sq ft (1,765 sq m) - River Island, 12,600 sq ft (1,170 sq m) - and New Look has taken 22,600 sq ft (2,100 sq m). New Look will incorporate its recently launched menswear range at the centre for the first time.

The fit-out of Debenhams' 180,000 sq ft (16,720 sq m) department store is well under way, and others taking units include Schuh, Jones The Bootmaker, Karen Millen, French Connection, USC, The Pier and The Professional Cookware Company. Existing MetroCentre retailers, Goldsmiths, Clinton Cards and Game, will open additional units at Red Mall.

Capital Shopping Centres managing director John Abel said: 'Red Mall has been able to meet the requirement of retailers for large-format stores. We are now virtually fully let, and, when it opens on October 6, MetroCentre will have an additional department store, a wider fashion choice and new facilities to add to its already comprehensive offer.'

On completion of Red Mall, the MetroCentre will have 1.8 million sq ft (167,220 sq m) of retail space, meaning it will regain its title as Europe's largest shopping centre.

In addition to retail space, the£85 million project will provide an 1,100-space car park, and a public transport interchange.
