Planet and Precis brands strong
Classic womenswear retailer Jacques Vert has delivered improved profits and a successful Christmas.

Interim pre-exceptional operating profits leaped 52 per cent to£2.4 million on sales up 8.9 per cent to£57.7 million.

Like-for-likes advanced 7.8 per cent and rose 8 per cent in the 10 weeks since the period ended on October 28.

Last year was pivotal for Jacques Vert, when it sold its wholesale division and addressed a variety of 'legacy issues', according to chairman Derek Lovelock. The company is now free to focus on its core retail operations, he said.

At the retail division, the Planet and Precis brands performed particularly well, Lovelock noted. However, gross margin was down, to 64.3 per cent against 65.2 per cent the previous year.

Lovelock said he was delighted with and looked forward 'to building on the encouraging trading performance since the beginning of the year'.
