Speculation is growing that Tesco chief executive Sir Terry Leahy is in line to become chairman of the FA.

Leahy was first tipped to take over the role when he announced in March that he would be stepping down from the UK’s largest retailer next Spring.

According to the Daily Mail, Leahy is understood to be a popular choice for the role within the FA, which plans to appoint a permanent chairman in December, to replace acting chairman Barry Bright.

Keen football fan Leahy, who has been at the helm of Tesco since 1996, will retire from the retailer in March next year.
