Hardware and homewares retailer Robert Dyas has appointed Stephen McVey as chief executive, Retail Week can reveal.

McVey was most recently managing director of JTF Cash and Carry but has held store management retail roles in businesses including B&Q, Currys and Do it All.

McVey, who was also managing director at wholesalers Makro UK, starts at Robert Dyas on July 25. In the last five months McVey has provided consulting support to Makro Habib in Pakistan.

He replaces Steven Round, who left the business in February, as revealed by Retail Week.

The appointment comes as the retailer notched up a 3% increase in like-for-like sales in the 12 weeks to June 18, after a “change in trading tactics re-energised the business in a difficult economic climate”.

Geoff Brady will resume his role as non-executive chairman after acting as executive chairman whilst the board recruited a new chief executive.
