DIY group Maxeda has appointed Roel van Neerbos as group chief executive, taking the helm from former executive chairman Tony DeNunzio who has moved up to the supervisory board.

DeNunzio had been executive chair since March, when chief executive George Adams stepped down.

Van Neerbos, who was placed by headhunter Clarity, takes up his new role on January 7.

Van Neerbos has more than 28 years’ experience, including roles at Procter & Gamble, Mattel and most recently Heinz where he was president, continental Europe, and president, global ketchup.

DeNunzio said: “It is our ambition to build the next level of sustainable growth. With Roel van Neerbos joining Maxeda we are confident of achieving this Despite challenging market conditions, we have made considerable progress in upgrading our customer offer, we have continued to invest in stronger ranges and stores, we have improved Maxeda’s own brands and we have successfully launched e-commerce in the Netherlands.”

Maxeda has four formats: Praxis, Formido, Brico and Plan-It.
