Marks & Spencer’s hiring spree continues with the news it has appointed a finance chief for its food arm as it continues its turnaround efforts.

The retailer appointed former N Brown executive Craig Lovelace to the role at the end of last month, though his start date has yet to be confirmed, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Lovelace replaced Nick Hewitt, whose departure was announced earlier in the week.

The appointment is the latest in a string of hires made by M&S as it battles to boost its fortunes following a number of years of tough trading.

On Wednesday, it announced that non-executive director Katie Bickerstaffe had been made strategy and transformation director. She succeeded Melanie Smith, who was formerly strategy director before being appointed as chief executive of Ocado’s retail division following the joint venture between the online grocer and M&S.

At the end of last year, M&S recruited the former boss of Tesco’s F&F arm, Richard Price, to head up its struggling fashion arm following the departure of Jill McDonald.

Lovelace joined N Brown in May 2015. Prior to that, he worked for BMI Healthcare as group chief financial officer. He also held financial roles with Regus, Electronic Arts and began his career at PwC.
