Kingfisher chief executive Ian Cheshire has been recognised in the New Year’s Honours list.

Cheshire was knighted for services to business, sustainability and the environment.

Under his leadership the B&Q-to-Castorama DIY retail giant has been at the forefront of green business initiatives. The Kingfisher boss has also played a wider role as an industry leader as chairman of the British Retail Consortium.

Other retailers awarded New Year gongs include Waitrose managing director Mark Price, who was made a CVO.

As well as running the John Lewis Partnership-owned grocer, Price is chairman of Business in the Community and the Prince’s Countryside Fund.

David Bernstein, former chairman of Blacks Leisure and French Connection, was appointed a CBE for services to football as former chairman of the Football Association.
