HMV has appointed Comet head of merchandising and store development Ewan Pinder as its head of technology.

Technology forms a key plank in the entertainment retailer’s turnaround strategy. HMV has reformatted its Islington store in London to focus on technology, which is a growing category for the retailer.

Like-for-likes in technology grew 20% in 2010.

Pinder, who joins with immediate effect and will report to commercial director Gary Warren, will head a four-strong technology team comprising technology manager Ricky Gordon, senior technology buyer Rob Mason and technology buyer Dean Millward.

He has more than 20 years experience in the electricals sector.

HMV is due to meet with its banks this week to present its business plan. The entertainment retailer has warned it is in danger of breaching its covenants and has issued two profit warnings this year.
