Google has appointed a former THG Beauty chief marketing officer as its new director of retail for the UK and Ireland.
Pete Metcalfe, who spent nearly two years in his role at THG Beauty, has joined Google and is responsible for leading “retail large customer sales,” focusing on “leadership, strategy, innovation, and long-term growth” for retail brands in the AI era.
Metcalf posted on LinkedIn on Tuesday (April 14) that he has started his new role and will be working with the managing director of retail and consumer goods, Sophie Neary.
He posted: “For my entire career in marketing, I have collaborated with Google. They have always been the partner I most admired.
“There are so many reasons, but these are the ones that stand out: the utility of the original idea and ability to build on that consistently, the global culture they have grown and nurtured, and the tireless innovation that drives the business every day.
He continued: “It feels like the perfect time to join, given the retail transformation happening right now. The way people stream, search, and shop is going to change dramatically over the coming months and years, and we will be right at the centre of this shift.”
