Asda’s former supply chain boss Gavin Chappell has returned to the brand after a decade away.

Chappell will rejoin the business in April and is joining from Bensons for Beds, where he has spent the last two years as the chief operating officer for the retailer.

He will take up the role of vice president of food and general merchandise supply at Asda and will be responsible for the supply chain teams across the categories.

Chappell first joined Asda in 2009 as vice president of supply chain and left the retailer in 2015.

He also previously worked at Dunelm as group supply chain director for four years before moving to Holland & Barrett before leaving for Bensons for Beds in 2022.

Chappell will report directly to another recent Asda returner David Lepley who is the brand’s newly created chief supply chain officer.

Lepley said: “We know that the key to delivering legendary service and great value is ensuring customers can get the products they want each and every time they shop at Asda.

“Gavin’s knowledge of the business and considerable experience in logistics and supply chain functions will ensure we can continue meeting the needs of hardworking families.”

Chappell has been replaced at Bensons by former Loaf executive Rob Pierce who joins as chief operations officer.

Pierce will take up his new role later this month, having previously also worked at Rapha and John Lewis.

Rob Pierce, new Chief Operations Officer at Bensons for Beds says; ”I have spent the last several years watching Bensons and looking on with admiration at the transformation that the business has gone through. To now have an active role in shaping the future of the brand and continue the great work that Nick and the team have started is really exciting.”
