British Retail Consortium (BRC) chairman Rob Templeman is set to stand down in October after just a year in the role.

According to a BRC spokesman the former Debenhams chief executive had always planned to stay in the role for one year to allow him to attend to other commitments.

A successor to the role is expected to be announced in September, although it is not yet known who this will be.

In his time at the BRC Templeman lobbied Government to rethink its policy on business rates, pushing the Government to offer a payment deferral scheme.

Current director general Stephen Robertson is set to stand down at the end of the year. BRC is still in the midst of hiring a replacement for him.
