Best Buy Europe has poached Mothercare group property director Grahame Smith as the electricals retailer ramps up its search for more stores across the continent.

The news comes after Retail Week last week revealed that branded operations chief executive Paul Antoniadis will make exit from the retailer later this month, a shock move just three months after leading the electricals giant’s UK launch.

Smith, appointed to the newly created role of group property director of Best Buy Europe, will report to chief executive Scott Wheway. Smith will be responsible for “all aspects” of Best Buy and Carphone Warehouse’s property strategy.

A Best Buy Europe spokesman said the retailer would benefit from Smith’s “extensive” experience. Before Mothercare he worked at Arcadia Group and will join “in the next few months”.
