DIY giant B&Q is making 15% of its head office staff redundant as it restructures to create a more “customer focused, agile, omnichannel retailer”.
The retailer has made 220 net redundancies across a range of functions at its 1,400-strong head office in Eastleigh, Hants.
However, the retailer has also created 100 new head office roles. B&Q said it is “building sustainable jobs for the future and planning for growth”.
The 220 members of staff are being notified today and there will be a consultation period of 90 days.
B&Q people director Fraser Longden said: “We recognise this is a difficult time for everyone and thank everyone for their contributions to the business and this process; these changes are fundamental to creating sustainable jobs and the future growth of the business.”
The retailer said the new structure “includes many new and different roles and changes to ways of working”.
It said: “B&Q is doing everything it can for those people who are affected today including enhanced redundancy packages, which go way beyond statutory requirements.”
In its interim results last month parent Kingfisher revealed that it was restructuring B&Q’s head office, but at the time could not say how many staff would be affected.
