Asda shopper Terry McIlmail’s bargain-hunting ways provided the inspiration for his unusual, Great British Bake Off-worthy birthday cake.
The Great British Bake Off may be over but the halo effect has not worn off yet.
The McIlmail family have baked a cake that would be certain to catch the eye of Mary Berry or Paul Hollywood.
Terry McIlmail is known for popping down to Asda’s store in Newtownards, Northern Ireland, every evening to pick up the reduced items.
His bargain-hunting ways proved the source of some unlikely inspiration for the cake for his big 60th birthday.
The yellow ‘Whoops!’ labels were recreated by the resourceful McIlmail family. “Was 59, now 60” reads the icing on the cake.
Presumably the family bought the ingredients from Asda’s reduced aisle.
