An extra 60 jobs have been lost across Clinton Cards’ head office and retail operations, Retail Week has learned.

The number of area managers at the retailer was halved from 40 to 20 yesterday, while about another 40 head office staff were also let go on top of the management team who exited the business last week.

The job losses are in addition to the 2,800 under threat after administrator to the greetings card retailer Zolfo Cooper revealed last week that it was set to close 350 of its 750 stores. This included all stores with the Birthdays fascia, signalling the retailer’s exit from the high street.

First round bids for the retailer are due in this week. It is understood a number of serious bids have already been made for the business. The second round bids begin next week.

Clinton Cards collapsed into administration on May 9 after its debt holder and largest supplier American Greetings called in a £35m debt that it could not pay.
