Gifts and stationery retailer Parchment has had a petition brought against it to wind up the company. Mourant & Co Trustees filed the document at the High Court on January 25.

Parchment’s owner Ralph Maxwell said the winding-up notice related to a dispute with a landlord at its Liverpool store in the Met Quarter.

Maxwell said: “We will be able to pay the debt. We can sort it out very quickly. We have enormous expansion plans and are in an extremely good position. We’re being approached by investors left, right and centre.” He added: “Things are going fine and we’re very happy with the business.”

Parchment operates 20 stores in the UK.
