Online shopping reward scheme Mutualpoints has launched an offline reward programme for its members.

Using technology provided by loyalty platform provider Reward, Mutualpoints is able to let members collect points offline by registering their payment cards with the scheme.

Members then accumulate points as they use these cards to pay for goods at participating retailers. Retailers signed with Reward include Halfords, Burton, JJB Sports and Superdrug, as well as leisure operators such as Cineworld and Little Chef.

Mutualpoints has 1.5 million members, who last month received more than£70,000 in cash through the redemption of points. Members have to collect 3,000 points to redeem£20 in cash. After that, each additional 750 points earns them a further£5.

Reward chief executive Gavin Dein said: “With the onset of the credit crunch causing consumers to tighten their belts, rewarded shopping and loyalty programmes will continue to grow.

“Retailers now have to fight harder than ever to retain their customers, let alone attract new ones, and Reward is a simple programme that achieves both.”
