Shop Direct strategy and communications director Dan Rubel is leaving the business, Retail Week can reveal.

Rubel is leaving to take up a role at the RAC. It is not clear whether the retailer has recruited his successor.

Rubel joined Shop Direct in 2010 as head of marketing, advertising and PR before taking on the role of group strategy director in December 2012. He was promoted to his current role in January 2015.

A Shop Direct spokesman said: “Dan Rubel will be leaving Shop Direct later this year with our support and thanks for a successful seven years with the business. His successor will be announced in due course.”

Alex Baldock interview

Rubel’s tenure with Shop Direct has coincided with a period of significant transformation for the former catalogue business.

The turnaround, engineered by former chief executive Mark Newton-Jones and current boss Alex Baldock, has seen the retailer grow both top and bottom lines.

It is now considered industry-leading with technology such as AI and personalisation.

Owners the Barclay brothers are understood to be considering selling the business, seeking a £3bn price tag for the etail group.

The fast-growing etailer, which owns brands such as Very and Littlewoods, has garnered interest from a clutch of private equity firms.
