Tesco.com, Sainsbury's To You and Ocado all enjoyed record Christmas performances because more shoppers sat in front of their PCs rather than running around supermarkets.
John Lewis-backed Ocado delivered 15,000 orders in the seven days to Christmas Eve. The average customer order was worth£146.25, up£11 on the previous year. In the last three days to Christmas Eve, Ocado sales were more than£1 million - up 300 per cent.
Tesco.com's orders through December climbed to a record-breaking 500,000, and sales were higher in the month than for the whole of 1999.
Sainsbury's To You is understood to have generated sales of more than£3.5 million in the week to Christmas Day.
A spokeswoman said that Sainsbury's To You continues to perform well and is on track to break even by the end of the financial year.
