Oddbins is to close 39 stores as part of its strategic review.

The off-licence retailer last week said it had hired Spectrum Corporate Finance to advise it on its strategic options.

Oddbins said in a statement: “Oddbins has announced today that, due to the tough economic climate, the business is being restructured with the result that 39 branches across the UK will be closed over the coming weeks.”

Oddbins said staff have been informed and “the decision is part of a complete strategic review to ensure the business can move forward on a solid footing”.

The retailer currently has 128 shops, meaning it will be left with a chain of 89.
