Michael Jary, co-founder and senior partner with OC&C Strategy Consultants, has been appointed the new chair of the board of trustees at the Fairtrade Foundation.

Jary will work alongside Fairtrade Foundation chief executive Michael Gidney in the role at the ethical grocery label. He replaces David Clayton-Smith who held the position of chair for six years.

Along with a range of academic accolades from the University of Oxford and INSEAD business school, Jary is also the chair of organic food brand Duchy Originals and a non-executive director of Nationwide Building Society.

Jary is a regular speaker in the retail and consumer sector and is the author of Retail Power Plays. He will continue his role at OC&C alongside the Fairtrade Foundation position.

Gidney said: “There couldn’t be a better time for Michael, as a highly experienced strategist, to bring his leadership into our thinking. I look forward to working with him to deliver our ambitious business plan that will unlock the potential of Fairtrade to deliver even greater impact for millions of farmers and workers around the world.”
