7:31am Apple sales fall but tech giant hails recovery

Apple recorded its sharpest ever sales decline in its second quarter but raised its guidance for the year ahead as it welcomed signs of a recovery.

The business said that a resurgence of premium handsets in China gave it confidence that the market was recovering. Shares surged on the news.

iPhones generated $31bn in the three months to end of March while services such as Apple Music and the App Store accounted for $11.4bn - a 16% rise.

Total sales declined 5% to $58bn.
