7:23am Games Workshop ‘profits ahead’ 

Games Workshop has said compared to the previous year, sales and profits are both ahead in trading up to April 7, 2019. 

The retailer said its current expectation is that profit before tax for the year ending June 2, 2019 will be around £80m.

It also said it will be paying out a dividend of 35p per share, “in line with the company’s policy of distributing truly surplus cash”.

7:21am Online grocery shopping figures slump

Online grocery shopping in the UK is set to grow more slowly, according to new research.

In 2018, 45% of consumers said they shopped for groceries online, down from 49% in 2016, according to a report by market analysts Mintel.

The report found 42% of older people said they had never bought groceries online and had no interest in doing so, the BBC reports.

The survey had 2,000 respondents and 63% said they had had an issue with an order in the past year.

7:01am Amazon Go stores to accept cash

Amazon Go stores will start accepting cash payments from customers, amid criticism that the retail giant is discriminating against those without bank accounts.

In a meeting last month, Amazon senior vice president of physical stores Steve Kessel told employees the company plans to accept “additional payment mechanisms” at Go stores, reports CNBC.

Amazon Go customers currently need to use a separate app to pay for on-the-go meals and fresh produce at the retailer’s 10 Go stores in the USA.
