Andy Burnham pledges cost of living ‘breathing space’ in first speech as PM

Andy Burnham has used his first speech as prime minister to promise those being affected by the cost-of-living crisis “breathing space” from his first full day in office.

In a speech delivered outside No 10 Downing Street, Burnham also said his government would prioritise helping young people into work by making changes to the education system and offer them more mental health support, and pledged to build more council homes in a “fair and sustainable way”.
