Kernan replaces Lex Gemas who left the business to join Esprit in July, less than six months after the retailer’s failed £1.7bn IPO was postponed.

Kernan continues to report in to chief executive Carl McPhail and remains president of New Look’s French value fashon fascia Mim.

Under the new chief operating office role, Kernan will also chair the group operating board and continue to chair the trade board.

Kernan has been with New Look for 11 years, having held the roles of group finance and IT director, trading director, managing director UK and Eire and group managing director. He has over 20 years fashion retail experience.
