Landmark picked as joint-venture partner
Value fashion retailer New Look has set its sights on India and plans to enter the Indian market through a joint venture with Dubai-based Landmark Group.

The equity structure of the enterprise is still unclear but, according to reports, New Look hopes to expand in India and maybe China ahead of a possible flotation this year.

In September last year, the duo opened a first New Look store in Dubai and the retailer aims to expand in more than six countries within the next five years.

New Look revealed UK like-for-like sales rose 3.2 per cent in the 14 weeks to December 30, driven by space and range expansion throughout Europe. Total group sales jumped 26 per cent.

Landmark's international brands division operates Kappa and Bossini and is in the middle of rolling out European brand Springfield in India at present.

New Look has 570 stores in the UK and Ireland and is expanding in Belgium, France, Ireland and the UK. In the UK, its latest opening is the 21,000 sq ft (1,950 sq m) flagship at the Arndale Centre in Manchester. It is extending its portfolio into former Littlewoods stores.

In France, the retailer operates the 230-strong chain of Mim stores and is testing a handful of New Look-branded stores.
