Value retailers continue to pull in the customers, with Netto announcing a 7 per cent sales increase over the year to June 14.

Netto is among the fastest-growing UK supermarkets, according to figures from AC Nielsen.

The grocer’s growth in London and the Midlands has outstripped rival retailers in the areas, showing it has increased its custom outside its Yorkshire heartland.

Netto said it does not have to rely on “low frills and gimmicks” to draw in customers, as figures reveal the chain has the lowest percentage spend on offers, compared with rivals.

Netto UK managing director Richard Lancaster said: “It’s quite clear that shopping habits are evolving. Our positive growth is indicative of the fact that new shoppers are discovering Netto and our unique offering of value for money with no compromise on quality.”
