Pre-tax profit up 177 per cent
Manchester-based home shopping group N Brown has revealed pre-tax profits up 177.4 per cent to£51.8 million for the year ending February 25.

The group has been developing its core home shopping business and rationalising other sectors of the business.

Sales rose by 10.4 per cent at its home shopping division. A customer recruitment campaign resulted in a 19 per cent increase in sales from new customers.

Online sales increased by 70 per cent and accounted for 16 per cent of total sales.

Current trading is said to be encouraging, with overall group sales up 7.1 per cent and home shopping sales up 8.8 per cent for the first 10 weeks of the financial year.

N Brown chief executive Alan White said: 'I am pleased to announce a strong set of results against the background of a challenging retail market. It is encouraging that our focus on our core home shopping business over the past year has resulted in an excellent performance across all areas of the group.

'Improved product ranges and catalogue presentation, together with an increasingly significant proportion of online sales demonstrates our ability to compete successfully in multi-channel retailing.'

N Brown specialises in selling plus-size women's clothing and footwear.
