Ebay senior vice president and general manager of eBay Marketplaces Europe Doug McCallum is to move to a new role as senior adviser to eBay Inc’s president and chief executive John Donahoe.

McCallum will focus on three areas – helping multiple retailers and brands to successfully use eBay as a channel; working with the European government on promoting the ecommerce sector; and working with eBay staff on leadership development.

He said eBay’s partnership with multiple retailers is growing strongly and “we’ve cracked the code on how to do this”.

He also said mobile is becoming an increasingly important channel for eBay and its partners. 10% of eBay’s UK sales now come from mobile. He said smaller multiples and brands can harness the mobile channel through eBay as it has a dedicated team of developers working on the medium, rather than the retailer having to appoint advisers to help it launch on mobile.

McCallum’s new role will be part time, and will allow him to take up other opportunities. He is also a non-executive director of Ocado. He has been with eBay for ten years.

Donahoe said: “In a decade with our company, Doug has built an incredibly strong business and team, first in the UK where he built our business into a top 5 national brand with 17 million active users.

“And then over the last four years, Doug turned around our broader European business through radical product, pricing, sales and marketing strategies that we have subsequently rolled out in the US and beyond. Doug thus led many of the growth strategies that are now enabling us to shape the future of commerce and reinvent how consumers shop. I am delighted now to have him as a Senior Adviser across our broader portfolio.”

A replacement for McCallum is likely to be unveiled in the fourth quarter.
