Moss stores get revamp to widen customer base

Fashion retailer Moss Bros is to revamp its Moss stores to attract a broader customer base, before going back on the expansion trail next year.

'This is a year of stabilisation,' said chief executive Philip Mountford, as he announced a swing into profit for the first time in four years.

Pre-tax profit was£1 million in the year to January 31, compared with a loss of£2.5 million last year. Sales were£124 million from£128 million.

Of 40 Moss stores set for refurbishment this year, 10 have been completed.

Sharper merchandising has helped attract younger male shoppers and increase share of the suits market to 8 per cent, from 7.6 per cent last year.
