Morrisons will anchor the next phase of development at the Holyhead retail park on Anglesey.

The supermarket will open a 65,000 sq ft (6,040 sq m) store as part of phase two of the development. Plans by developer Pettifer Estates for phases two and three of the scheme, which will bring 200,000 sq ft (18,580 sq m) of retail space, received outline planning consent recently.

Pettifer Estates director David MacMullen said: “The expansion of the park is a major economic boost for the Isle of Anglesey. The County Council and Welsh Assembly have recognised that retailing is a superb regenerator and have been helpful in providing both land and other support.”

Phase one of the scheme, which was completed in May 2005, focused on non-food retail. Brantano, New Look, Carpetright, Peacocks and Wilkinson all took units, with the latter opening its first retail park site.

Construction on the Morrisons store is due to start in the spring. Joint letting agents Legat Owen and CBRE are advising Pettifer Estates.
