Grocer pays £11,000 for breaching food regulations
Grocer Morrisons has been fined£11,000 by magistrates for selling a mouldy meat pie to a customer at its Grantham store.

A woman became sick after taking a bite of the sausage and onion pie, which was found to have green mould on top of it, the court heard.

The retailer admitted a breach in food regulations, saying the mistake was the result of a lapse by an individual staff member rather than a widespread problem in the company.

Trading standards officers visited the store and found three other mouldy pies in a batch of 13 on sale in the supermarket.

All staff at the Grantham store have now been given re-training in stock rotation.

Council representative Mandy Braithwaite said: 'The level of the fine is adequate for the offence.

'I think the message that it sends out is that the council will not tolerate the sale of food that is unfit for human consumption.'

The company was ordered to pay costs of£4,334 in addition to the fine.
