Move fuels speculation over menswear success
Monsoon has put its two standalone men's stores on the market, fuelling speculation about the performance of its menswear business.

The standalone stores in Newcastle and on Covent Garden's Long Acre were opened in October 2004. In a statement, Monsoon said that the stores would close at some point in the near future. Agents were instructed to seek buyers for the properties last week.

At the time of opening, Monsoon said the standalone units were pilots ahead of a potential roll-out. Since then, no further standalone men's stores have been opened and the retailer has not recently provided any trading information about menswear.

Monsoon sells its men's collections from 49 stores in the UK, Russia and online. Staff at both stores will be relocated.
