Monsoon Accessorize has poached former George at Asda and Marks & Spencer executive Kevin Rusling as its international director.

Monsoon failed to reduce lease costs

Rusling, who has been director of international at George at Asda since March 2012, will take responsibility for Monsoon Accessorize’s overseas expansion.

Monsoon Accessorize founder Peter Simon said: “Kevin’s expertise lies in delivering a strategic vision across an international business portfolio.”

In his five years at Asda, Rusling helped drive overseas expansion of the grocer’s clothing brand, including opening stores in the Channel Islands and the Middle East last year.

Monsoon Accessorize this week indicated it is to appoint an examiner for its 20-store Irish arm the day after former Dixons and Apple retail boss John Browett took up his new role there as chief executive.

Monsoon Accessorize Ireland has filed a notice of intent to appoint an examiner. PwC examiner Declan McDonald was waiting in the wings on Tuesday. It came after negotiations with landlords to reduce the cost of leases on stores in the country failed.
