Product specialist chosen after Mayhew's departure announced
John Lewis Partnership development director Charlie Mayfield has been appointed as the next managing director of the eponymous department store chain.

He will replace Luke Mayhew, who will leave on December 24. Industry insiders saw Mayfield as marked for promotion, but the departure of Mayhew, revealed over the weekend, came as a surprise. Mayfield will take up his post on January 16.

He has spent his career mostly in the development of leading brands such as Lucozade, Horlicks and Tabasco. Previously, he was an officer in the Scots Guards, reaching the rank of Captain.
